VSP Global Innovation Center Blog > Projects > Take a PEEK: New Portable Eye Exam Kit Designed to Help Providers Scale Access to Care
When working in communities with limited access to care, every tool that helps providers reach patients where they are can make a significant difference. The Global Innovation Center designed PEEK (Portable Eye Exam Kit) with this challenge in mind.
PEEK is a custom-built suite of next-gen optical technologies designed to help eye care professionals extend care in areas with limited access. The kit, which fits inside a lightweight carry-on suitcase, contains all the necessary technology and tools to deliver remote, asynchronous comprehensive eye exams.
The kit features a suite of innovative, portable devices, including:
PEEK is designed to be administered by licensed vision care professionals in diverse settings, such as senior centers, schools, and youth and family recreation centers.
All that is needed to use PEEK to deliver a comprehensive eye exam is a reliable power source and internet connection.
VSP Vision is currently equipping network providers with PEEKs so they can extend their services through pop-up clinics. This will increase access for members who have been unable to get to a brick-and-mortar vision care facility due to challenges posed by transportation, mobility, and work or family obligations.
